Finding Vmin

Finding Vmin

What is the true minimum voltage (Vmin) of your device? The voltage you set at the Voltage Regulator Module (VRM) is rarely what your transistors actually see. This discrepancy can have a massive impact on your power budget, because voltage has a quadratic relationship with power (P∝V^2). A difference of just 50mV can seriously impact your SoC’s power efficiency and performance.

On complex, heterogeneous SoCs with various CPU cores, GPUs, and AI accelerators, how do you debug a transient timing failure on a single core when you can’t see the specific voltage droop that caused it?

In this episode, we explain how Movellus’ Aeonic Insight PDN IQ helps you find your true Vmin during bench characterization. By distributing smart sensors across the die, you get the power of an oscilloscope right at your processing elements.
